First Med Urgent Care Provides Tips To Fight The Common Cold

Preventative Measures And When To Visit An Urgent Care

You’ve got that all too familiar scratch in your throat, your head is feeling fuzzy and all you want to do is sleep. Enter the common cold. First Med Urgent Care has compiled some helpful tips that you may be able to follow in order to get over your pesky cold. If you’re at the starting stages of a cold, you can possibly avoid a trip to the urgent care simply by following these tips:

1.) Use a decongestant spray to clear sinus cavities. They work almost instantly! If you can’t stand to spray something up your nose try a decongestant pill, instead. There are plenty of over-the-counter medications.

2.) When you try to blow your nose from both nostrils at the same time, you could actually be creating even more pressure as forceful nose blowing forces nasal fluids up into your sinuses. To prevent infection, blow your nose by closing one nostril at a time and blowing out of only the open nostril.

3.) Eating chicken soup may help you feel better. Research tells us that chicken soup is an anti-inflammatory and the warmth helps to temporarily speed up the movement of mucus through the nose. Your mother was right all those years!

4.) Get lots of rest. Sleep is vital, especially when you’re sick. Don’t feel guilty about staying home from work or school, because your friends will thank you for not spreading the illness and so will your body once you receive the proper amount of rest.

Of course, if you’re well past the stage of fighting the cold off with at-home remedies and you find that you have a high fever, severe headache or any swelling then you probably want to make a trip down to the urgent care. If need be, stronger prescriptions can be written for you when you visit an urgent care doctor. Often times, if a cold goes untreated it can turn into something much worse. The key is to jump right into treating the problem, but if you’ve waited too long we’re here for you.
