Wearing The Right Sunscreen For Protection: Part 1

Chemical Free Sunscreen To Prevent Damage

Our urgent care staff is excited to get out and enjoy the sunshine. The truth is that we could all use a little sunlight as it’s a great source of vitamin D for our bodies, but it really doesn’t take much to get all that is needed. Prevention is the best method of getting too much sun exposure, but only if you’re actually using something that is, in fact, preventing damage. That’s why, in part one of this series, our urgent care blog is going to be talking a little about the importance of wearing the right sunscreen.

With society becoming increasingly awareness about harmful chemicals in products it’s going to take a watchful eye to choose a sunscreen that doesn’t speed up the development of skin tumors and lesions. For example, parabens are added preservatives that have been found in many body care products and it is suggested by some studies that parabens increase the chances of skin cancer when applied in the presence of sunlight.

In case you are health conscious and you’re looking for a few sunscreen products that are chemical free, our urgent care staff has done a little research and compiled the following list:

  • Eau Thermale Avène Mineral Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+: This is a sheer, light formula that is spiked with glycerin and vitamin E for extra moisture and antioxidant protection. It’s unscented, for those that like it simple.
  • Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47: This is loaded with aloe and protects skin with green tea and jojoba oil extracts. It smells fruity and tropical for those that want to smell beachy.
  • SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50: If you hate oil or chalky feelings, this one is for you. It has a matte finish and feels like something between a makeup primer and a typical sunscreen. It has a beige tint to it and does not smell like sunscreen.
  • Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30: Zinc oxide makes up over 20% of the ingredients and it is full of antioxidants moisturizers like marula oil. It is a fragrance-free sunscreen.

These are just a few chemical free sunscreen products our urgent care staff found. We’ll be listing a few more in part two of this series, so stay tuned!
