Wearing The Right Sunscreen For Protection: Part 2

Chemical Free Sunscreen To Prevent Damage

We know you love getting out in the pool or just enjoying the sunshine, in general. Our urgent care staff does too! As we discussed in part one of this series, a little sunlight is great for our bodies. It’s not only good for vitamin D, it also helps you to absorb more calcium for stronger, healthier bones. Of course, it doesn’t take much sunlight to get what you need. Since it’s not likely that most families will be willing to limit their outdoor activities to only 15-30 minutes per day it’s important to protect the skin from damaging ultraviolet rays by wearing sunscreen.

It’s vital to choose the right type of sunscreen, of course. In part one of our urgent care blog we listed a few chemical free options to choose from for those that don’t want to have potentially skin-irritating components like parabens (making skin tumor development more likely) being applied to your skin. Today, our urgent care staff is going to list a few more chemical free sunscreen products you can choose from for a healthier, safer time in the sun.

If you’re looking for a few products that are chemical free, our urgent care staff has done a little research and compiled the following list:

  • Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 60+: This oil-free sunscreen one can be found at most drugstores and feels weightless. It has been said that it won’t harm sensitive skin, either. It is unscented, for those that like it simple.
  • Coola Face SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Cucumber Matte Finish: This lightweight formula has oil-absorbing silica to allow for a matte finish instead of the glossy sunscreen and it has shea butter for moisture. It has a fresh, cucumber scent.
  • Beautycounter Protect All Over Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30: This sunscreen has 19% of its ingredient concentration as zinc oxide and moisturizes with glycerin and aloe. It has a blend of citrus oils in it that produce its citrusy scent.
  • Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Sunscreen SPF 30: This sunscreen is plant-based with red raspberry and smooths the skin with coconut and green tea. Lavender essential oil is used for scent.

We hope this list of chemical free sunscreen products has been helpful to you. Our urgent care staff wishes you all a safe and happy time in the sun!

Wearing The Right Sunscreen For Protection: Part 1

Chemical Free Sunscreen To Prevent Damage

Our urgent care staff is excited to get out and enjoy the sunshine. The truth is that we could all use a little sunlight as it’s a great source of vitamin D for our bodies, but it really doesn’t take much to get all that is needed. Prevention is the best method of getting too much sun exposure, but only if you’re actually using something that is, in fact, preventing damage. That’s why, in part one of this series, our urgent care blog is going to be talking a little about the importance of wearing the right sunscreen.

With society becoming increasingly awareness about harmful chemicals in products it’s going to take a watchful eye to choose a sunscreen that doesn’t speed up the development of skin tumors and lesions. For example, parabens are added preservatives that have been found in many body care products and it is suggested by some studies that parabens increase the chances of skin cancer when applied in the presence of sunlight.

In case you are health conscious and you’re looking for a few sunscreen products that are chemical free, our urgent care staff has done a little research and compiled the following list:

  • Eau Thermale Avène Mineral Ultra-Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+: This is a sheer, light formula that is spiked with glycerin and vitamin E for extra moisture and antioxidant protection. It’s unscented, for those that like it simple.
  • Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47: This is loaded with aloe and protects skin with green tea and jojoba oil extracts. It smells fruity and tropical for those that want to smell beachy.
  • SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50: If you hate oil or chalky feelings, this one is for you. It has a matte finish and feels like something between a makeup primer and a typical sunscreen. It has a beige tint to it and does not smell like sunscreen.
  • Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30: Zinc oxide makes up over 20% of the ingredients and it is full of antioxidants moisturizers like marula oil. It is a fragrance-free sunscreen.

These are just a few chemical free sunscreen products our urgent care staff found. We’ll be listing a few more in part two of this series, so stay tuned!
